Hiya! I'm Steph, mother of three, teacher of many, writer of all the things. I made the switch to virtual education when I had my first child in 2009 and began writing for educational sites and companies around the same time.
I wax all things mother/womanhood and education on my blog, WhenCrazyMeetsExhaustion, and my word babies garnered enough interest that Page Street Publishing offered me a book contract!
*cue trumpets and the sound of my mom's happy crying here*
My first book, Schooled: A Love Letter to the Exhausting, Infuriating, Occasionally Excruciating Yet Somehow Completely Wonderful Profession of Teaching is out as of December '19!
Once upon a time...
a little girl’s dream came true and she got to write a book.
Schooled is that book.
The girl hopes her book will make you laugh and cry and think and then laugh some more. Then maybe figure out a way to contribute something worthwhile to public schools and the kids.
In this hilariously frank essay collection, high school English instructor and author Stephanie Jankowski throws open the classroom door to reveal the draining, frustrating, hair-pulling, but ultimately rewarding career that is teaching. Anyone in education or who works with kids for a living will laugh and commiserate with Steph’s blunt, no-holds-barred commentary in essays like:
When You’re a 22-year-old Teacher and Your Students are 18
Why Do I Kind of Hate This Job?
The Month of May Can Go Straight to Hell.
Baby-Naming Triggers, Classroom PTSD, and Other Predicaments Only Teacher-Parents Will Understand
The Time I Said the C-Word at a School Assembly (and Wasn’t Fired!)
Required reading for every educator who has wanted to bang their head against the blackboard, Schooled shouts: “I see you, fellow teacher… and you’re not alone.”
